Ultrasound:
This non invasive, non ionizing radiation modality is extensively
used in investigating a wide
variety of conditions including disease of the thyroid, kidneys,
liver, pancreas, gallbladder, pelvis (ovaries, uterus and prostate) and
breast. Biopsies and
aspirations under ultrasound guidance are also performed. Doppler
facilities allow assessment of arteries and veins. Small parts imaging and
musculoskeletal imaging and interventions are also undertaken.
· Mammography – screening and symptomatic services are provided. (see (See Mammography Patient Information Leaflet and Triple Assessment Clinic).
Computed
Tomography (CT) – Multi-slice CT scanning provides fast
cross-sectional images through the body. CT scans of brain sinuses; neck;
thorax; abdomen and pelvis; vascular and skeletal are undertaken in the
department. CT Colonography is
also available. (

Magnetic Resonance
Imaging- Similar to ultrasound MRI is a non invasive, non ionizing
radiation modality. In SVPH we have a 1.5 Tesla GE state-of- the-art
scanner that provides high quality images at reduced scan times which is
very important for patients who may be claustrophobic or find it difficult
to remain still for long periods of time. All systems of the body can be
imaged. These include Neurological scans (brain & spine), Abdominal
and Pelvic scans -including MRI scans of Liver, MRCP, MR Enterography, MRI
prostate, MRI rectum and MRI of female pelvis; Cardiovascular (heart and
blood vessels) system, Breast and musculoskeletal (bones and joints)
system. (See MRI Patient
Information Leaflet) Consultant

also have special interests which are summarized below: Dr

working and those who have to travel long distances or require someone to
